Closer than a Brother

For the past week or so, Bryce has been coming down with a cold. One of the first signs of this is that he starts struggling with his breathing due to asthma. Over the weekend his cold really hit him hard and so did the asthma. We decided this morning that we were going to keep him home from school today.

A few minutes after making this decision, Jayden came up to our room sobbing like his heart was breaking...

Josh: What's the matter, buddy?
Jayden: I don't want to go to school today (sobbing)
Josh: Why not?
Jayden (wailing) I don't want Bryce to not be close to my heart! (sobbing)

Josh and I looked at each other. That was the cutest and saddest thing I'd ever heard. So we let him stay home. After all, it's only kindergarten.
