Twas the day before Thursday...
Not a creature was stirring, Heaven forbid, not a mouse!
The dishes were loaded in the dishwasher with care
In hopes that my husband soon would be there
The children were quiet, not a peep, not a sound
While I ate my lunch and cleaned up the ground
All was at peace not a bang, not a tap
No crying, no whining, no hands in my lap
When I suddenly realized: THERE IS NO CLATTER
So I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter
Away to the mudroom I flew like a flash
Ran through the door in a mad, scrambling dash
The moon was not out and there was no snow
But the lights in the ceiling, were enough of a show
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But three miniature girls and every mother's fear
With my make-up brushes in hand, thinking they're slick
Dipping into the toilet, then to their mouths for a lick
More rapid than eagles, my curses they came
I whistled and shouted and called them by name
Oh Elly! Oh Addy! Oh Kynden Pot Pie!
Why do you do this? Why, why, why, why?
So of course, to the bathtub I flew
With babies in tow, one, three and two
With water a splashing I filled up the tub
And added some bubbles for a rub-a-dub-dub
With cheeks now like roses and noses like a cherry
Finally again, mommy is merry
With Kynden's cute face and round little belly
And Adelynn, when she laughs, is like a bowl full of jelly
Elly's chubby and plump, a cute little elf
That I smiled and laughed in spite of myself
And now, it is, the best part of the day
The girls are all sleeping, so is Jayden, Hooray!
As the rain comes down and the daylight gets thinner
It's time for me to get up and make dinner!
